VERN’ joined COST action Indoor living space improvement: Smart Habitat for the Elderly

Cooperation between the academic and business communities, the development of a collaborative research network and creation of smart solutions for improving the quality of life of seniors– those were the main topics at meetings of the Management Committee and working groups of the international project CA COST Action CA16226 - Indoor living space improvement: Smart Habitat for the Elderly (SHELD-ON).

The meetings were held at the end of February in Alicante, Spain, and the Croatian representative at the meeting of the Management Committee was Mr. Hrvoje Belani, M.Sc., VERN’s lecturer from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.

The names of working groups clearly indicate what areas will be considered for innovations and improvements for the elderly within this project – working group for furniture and interior industry, working group for ICT development and working group for healthcare.

Since joint actions in these areas can bring multiple benefits to participating countries and their citizens, the COST project is considered to be one of the most important global research and development programs. It will be carried out through international research networks, the so-called COST actions, which link nationally funded research projects from a particular area and/or scientific or educational institution with partners from the EU Member States and other collaborating countries in the research project implementation.
